American Vandal: True-crime series have taken a popular turn in recent times. American Vandal is a satire on the genre as it looks into the aftermath of a high school prank that left 27 faculty members’ cars vandalised. But instead of destroying the property, they drew obscene images on it. Dylan Maxwell was wrongly accused of the crime and expelled from the school but a curious sophomore takes it on himself and does further investigation to find out who really did it. The show is a rather underrated hit that gets teens addicted to it for its whole joke on justice.
3%: It is a Brazilian dystopian thriller which shows the future that is split by progress and devastation. The people of the slums are given a chance to join the elite side on the offshore. Only 3 per cent of the candidates get selected to go there. Watch the show to uncover dark secrets and loyalties behind the process and how a group of people plan on destroying it.
13 Reasons Why: It is said that more than half the entire human population suffers from depression but only a small per cent speak out about it. The danger of depression is shown when Hannah Baker stages the most perplexing suicide. Her classmate Clay finds a mysterious set of 12 tapes, each containing an episode of her life that led her to depression and suicide. After much controversies and allegations, the show is still one of the most watched shows on Netflix.
Anne with an E: Adapted from the book Anne of Green Gables, this Canadian drama series is about a day-dreaming orphan girl who has a miserable childhood living in the homes of strangers. She is accidentally shipped off to live with two aging siblings and this transforms her life and that of the the others.
Riverdale: Based on the famous Archie Comics, Riverdale is a modern day retelling of Archie and his friends but with a dark turn of events. The group tries to solve the mysterious murder of Jason Blossom as they uncover many other shady truths about Riverdale and its people while also dealing with their own problems. Rather than focusing just on Archie, the series shows light on all the characters especially the female ones with equal power.
Ingobernable: As the First Lady of Mexico, Emilia Urquiza is a woman of honour and conviction. While she has plans to improve the condition of her country, she loses faith in her husband, President Diego Nava, as they have constant arguments and dispute of ideas. She faces the challenge of keeping her strength while discovering the truth.
Travelers: A sci-fi Netflix original which features a post-apocalyptic world hundreds of years in the future where humans find a way to send their consciousness back in time to stop society from collapsing. They send their consciousness into people from the 21st century and prevent terrible incidents from happening. The operators then realise that it is not an easy task as they alter the present and future in unexpected ways.
The Keepers: The docu-series digs deep into the unsolved murder case of a Catholic high school English teacher, Sister Cathy Cesnik. The killer to date remains unnamed or untraced until in the 90’s, a former student speaks against priest Joseph Maskell and accuses him of sexual abuse. Director Ryan White conducts an investigation to link the accused to the case.
The OA: Creator and Producer Brit Marling also plays the lead role in the supernatural, fantasy series. Prairie Johnson reappears after having disappeared for seven long years with special abilities and not blind anymore. She calls herself The OA and refuses to talk to anyone about what happened to her and teams up with five strangers on a secret mission.
The Confession Tapes: The series takes a critical look on the crime cases of America where the confessions were coerced, involuntary or completely false in order to cover up for lack of physical evidence. Each episode uncovers a case where the murder convicts gave false confessions. The episodes comprise of interviews of investigators, lawyers and video or audio recordings of interrogations to help prove the legality of the case and the confession.
