“Why no protests against Mammootty”: Kerala BJP leader bats for Mohanlal

BJP Kerala general secretary K. Surendran, in a social media post, said that the protest against Mohanlal over Dileep's reinstatement into the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is a deliberate attack targeted at Mohanlal. The protests are aimed at damaging his reputation rather than a move to uphold woman's cause, he said.

He also questioned the silence of actress Manju Warrier over the reinstatement of Dileep, accused in 2017 actress attack case.

"Is Mohanlal alone responsible for the decision on Dileep? Did Mammootty oppose the move? Why no protests against him? Are Mukesh, Ganesh Kumar, Siddique and Jagadeesh really virtuous people?” asked the BJP leader.

“But the most mysterious aspect is the complete reversal of stand by Manju Warrier. Why are the activists upholding moral causes keeping mum? The reasons will be revealed if a person closely examines the discussions taking place on social media and those leading the protests being staged on the streets. "No superhuman power is needed to realise that the attack on Mohanlal is inspired not just by politics. Protests against the actor have been taking place for quite long. But those behind these activities should remember that if certain lines are crossed, the response could be severe,” said Surendran.

Dileep was arrested on charges of conspiracy in the case related to the abduction and assault of the south Indian actress in February, 2017, and later released on bail. Dileep allegedly wanted to take revenge on the victim actress for informing his then wife Manju Warrier about his affair with Kavya Madhavan.

Dileep had divorced Manju Warrier in 2015 and married Kavya Madhavan in 2016.
