Filmmaker Karan Johar on Thursday took to Twitter to announce his next project Takht. The multi-starrer film features a stellar star cast—Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal and Janhvi Kapoor.
Ranveer, who has previously starred in periodic films like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, says he is "Proud, excited and honoured to be a part of Karan Johar's multi-starrer historical magnum opus". Alia Bhatt tweeted: "Back where I begun.. to my roots! So excited to be a part of this historical magnum opus 'Takht'! Directed by the one and only Karan Johar." Alia Bhatt had made her Bollywood debut in 2012 through Karan Johar's Student of the Year.

Takht, directed by Karan Johar is being co-produced by Apoorva Mehta. The film will release in 2020. While Sumit Roy has written the screenplay, dialogues have been penned by Husain Qaidry along with Roy. “Writers are the heart and soul of the film,” Johar wrote on Twitter.
In another tweet, Karan Johar described the film as an epic battle for the Mughal throne. “A story of a family, of ambition, of greed, of love and of succession,” he wrote.
