After essaying the role of the menacing antagonist Jithu in Rajinikanth's Petta, Vijay Sethupathi will be seen as an auto driver in his upcoming movie Maamanithan.

Seenu Ramasamy, who earlier directed Vijay Sethupathi in Idam Porul Yaeval and Dharma Durai, will be be at the helm of the movie which went to floors in Theni last month. Maamanithan has Gayathrie in the female lead. Child actress Manasvi who played the role of the daughter of Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in the psychological thriller Imaikkaa Nodigal will also play an important role in Maamanithan.
According to media reports, the movie is expected to be a rural drama. The music of Maamanithan will be composed by Ilaiyaraaja and Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Besides Maamanithan, Vijay Sethupathi has a couple of releases scheduled for the year, including Super Deluxe in which he will share screen space with Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil, and Kadaisi Vivasayi in which he will be playing the role of a farmer.
