Eminent Malayalam filmmaker and chairman of the Kerala Film Development Corporation, Lenin Rajendran, on Monday died at a private hospital in Chennai following liver-related ailments, hospital sources said.
Rajendran, 67, recently underwent a liver transplantation surgery. He died at 8.45 pm on Monday, the sources said.
Known for his unique style of filmmaking, Rajendran had entered the tinseltown by directing the movie Venal during the early 1980s.
A multiple state award winner, Rajendran helmed a number of critically acclaimed movies including Swathi Thirunal, Daivathinte Vikrithikal, Mazha, Kulam and Idavapathi.

Known for his commitment to the Leftist ideology, Rajendran had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls in 1991 against K.R. Narayanan.
He is survived by wife Dr Ramani, daughter Dr Parvathy and son Gauthaman.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled Rajendran's death.
