Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's sci-fi thriller 2.0 has been nominated for Golden Reel Award for sound editing in the foreign language category. Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty who worked on 2.0, shared the news on Twitter.
An overjoyed Pookutty thanked his entire team and described the nomination as the 'highest recognition in sound design'. According to reports, the film has also been nominated in the feature film (foreign) category. Directed by Shankar, the film was the most expensive Indian film, and also grossed Rs 500 crores at the box office. The film also marked Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar's Tamil debut. He essayed the antagonist in the thriller which is a sequel to Shankar's Enthiran.

Resul Pookutty's soundwork in the film was highly appreciated—he used 4D SRL sound for the first time in Indian cinema. Pookutty has constantly been experimenting with sounds and tries to get the Indian audience to appreciate the effect of sounds more. His most recent release, multilingual film Praana, used live surround sync sound for the first time.
The Golden Reel Awards is presented by The Motion Picture Sound Editors to honour sound editing achievements across cinema and television. Roma, A Quiet Place, Mission Impossible: Fallout and First Man have also found a place in the nominations.
