Tamil actor Ajith, on Monday, released an official statement clarifying that he has no political ambitions. He urged his fans to not associate him with any political party in any way. This comes after multiple reports of him being associated with the BJP, and some of his fans joining the party post his Pongal release Viswasam.
In the statement, Ajith said he has always been careful not to let any political statements creep into his films. Ajith added that the only association he has with politics is to 'queue up to cast his vote as a citizen of India'.
Ajith also stressed on the fact that earlier he had disbanded all his fan clubs to avoid so that these associations won't take a political colour. “I have my own preferences when it comes to politics. But I don’t believe in imposing my views on my fans. Please don’t associate me or my fans with any political party. I am quite clear about what I want to do and what I’m here for. I want to continue to just do films as an actor, and I even disbanded my fan clubs years ago,” Ajith said.
Ajith also condemned social media trolls and violent behaviour from fans directed towards other actors. “I do not support the practice of online and social media platforms derogating and degrading other actors and critics,” he said.
He concluded with a piece of advice for his fans. “What I expect from my fans is that students should focus on their education, those who have their own business or are working should focus on their work, they should obey law and order, they should focus on their health, should be united, and respectful towards others. That will be the affection you show me. Live and let live.”
