IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman seems to have become a fashion icon of sorts as his handlebar moustache has emerged to be the latest fashion trend among youngsters.
Twitter has been abuzz with photos of youngsters who have fashioned their mustache after the IAF braveheart. There are also reports of a saloon in Rajarampuri are of Kolhapur in Maharashtra offering a free haircut and shave to anyone who sports the gunslinger moustache. "Everyone in the country is happy as our pilot has returned safely from Pakistan. To celebrate this national moment of pride, I am offering a free hair cut and shave to anyone who sports a moustache like Abhinandan," said the owner of the saloon, Bhalekar, who has displayed a board mentioning the offer outside his hair parlour, reports PTI.

In Bengaluru too, a saloon offered free haircuts and styling of moustache to anyone who wanted to follow the 'Abhinandan style', according to media reports.
The style, however, is not uncommon in South India as Kollywood actor Suriya had popularised it through his Singam franchise. However, of late, the moustache seems to have become the symbol of patriotism and bravery across the country.
Abhinandan Varthaman became a national hero when he shot down a Pakistani F-16 while chasing it out in his MiG-21 bison during Indian air space violation by Pakistan.
As his MiG-21 went down, he ejected and landed in Pakistani territory, where he was held captive for nearly 60 hours before his release on March 1.
