'Jimikki Kammal' crosses 100 million mark, sets a new record

100,055,300 views and counting. While many may have relegated 'Entammede Jimikki Kammal' to the farthest corners of the memory after it stopped topping the chartbusters, the Malayalam song from the 2017 Mohanlal starrer Velipadinte Pusthakam continued to have a quite run on the YouTube and has set a new record.

The song crossed the 100 million views mark on YouTube, becoming the first Malayalam song to touch such a milestone.

“Ladies and Gentlemen. Boys and girls. Presenting before you. The first ever Malayalam Video to hit 100 MILLION views on youtube. In one year !! Jimikki Kammal !! Our Pride !!” music director Shaan Rahman took to Instagram to break the news.

When the song was released on YouTube August 6, 2017, Shaan Rehman's music and the voice of Vineeth Srinivasan became an internet sensation overnight, with many celebrities in India and abroad tapping their feet to the tunes. The popularity of the song reached its zenith when Jimmy Kimmel, a popular US TV host, said he loved the song after someone brought it to his notice. Back home, Abhishek Bachchan took to Twitter to say Jimikki Kammal had become an obsession for him.

Quite a few dance videos came out, featuring the song, with many of them going viral. One such video reportedly became the second-most trending video on YouTube in 2017, becoming as popular as the original video.

The song also was also featured in a Tamil movie, Kaatrin Mozhi, starring Jyothika.
