Actor Siddharth isn't the one to shy away from expressing his take on politics and politicians. Recently, the actor had taken a dig at Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar after his 'non-political' interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying #akshaykumar is very underrated as a villain.
Now, in a tweet, the actor expressed his displeasure with the Congress, calling the party a "useless opposition". He also said the grand old party is no challenge to the BJP. "The #Congress and its strategies building up to this election are embarrassing. With a history of 60 years of disappointment, they are now winning prizes for being a useless opposition too. The #BJP knows how to campaign and win elections. There is no real contest in the field," the actor tweeted.
In a series of tweets that followed, the actor said there is no connect between the candidates who are standing for elections and their constituencies, and there is a lot of money being used to win elections. He pointed out that many people vote without even knowing the name of the candidate. "There is no connect between candidates and their constituencies. Everything is played with only national level power politics. Throw in the disgusting amount of cash for votes spent (and received) in places like #TamilNadu and it gets worse. The system is broken. Badly," the actor said.
"How many people have voted without even knowing the name of their chosen candidate? I suspect the answer is not a positive one for #Democracy," read another tweet.
Further, he had a word of advice for voters. Taking a cue from fellow actor-turned-politician Prakash Raj, who had recently urged the people to vote for the candidate of their constituency, instead of a leader or party at the centre, Siddharth asked the people to vote for "an individual who you believe will impact his immediate constituency." "Many of us #Indians are so tired of being told to support #BJP or #Congress. When you vote, let it be for an individual who you believe will impact his immediate constituency. Unquestionable power at the top has only led #India towards problems, no matter who is at the head," he tweeted.
Siddharth, who has acted in Tamil, Malayalam, Bollywood and Telugu films, had, a while ago, slammed the Narendra Modi biopic with a sarcastic tweet. He had tweeted the film's trailer doesn't show how Modi won India's independence by 'single-handedly wiping out the British empire.
