Bollywood mourns the demise of Veeru Devgan

Bollywood is mourning the demise of actor Ajay Devgn’s father Veeru Devgan. The celebrated stunt director passed away on Monday morning.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on Twitter. "Veeru Devgan passed away this morning [27 May 2019]... Father of Ajay Devgn... Veeru ji was an accomplished action director... Also directed #HindustanKiKasam, starring son Ajay with Amitabh Bachchan... Funeral will be held today at 6 pm... Heartfelt condolences to Devgn family (sic)."

Veeru Devgan, who was part of as many as 80 Hindi movies in various capacities, was also instrumental in bringing his son to Bollywood. Ajay Devgn debuted in the movie Phool Aur Kaante.

Veeru Devgan rose to fame, directing some of the finest stunt scenes in Bollywood, and creating a new wave in the action movie genre. He also directed a movie, Hindustan ki Kasam, in 1999.

Vicky Kaushal’s father Sham Kaushal, who is also a prominent stunt director, took to Twitter to mourn the demise. “RIP Veeru Devgan ji. Just came to know about this sad news. As an Action Director always ahead of his time and as human being par excellence. I became a stuntman with his blessings on 8th August, 1980 as he signed my application to become a stuntman and made me part of his team.”
