Actor-turned-MP Nusrat Jahan and husband Nikhil Jain who tied the knot recently were at their dazzling best at the grand reception hosted in Kolkata. The function was a star-studded affair with prominent celebrities and politicians in attendance.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also present at the event. First-time MP Nusrat Jahan won from a Trinamool Congress ticket from Basirhat in West Bengal. She tied the knot with long-time boyfriend and Kolkata-based businessman Nikhil in Turkey last month. She had skipped oath-taking for Lok Sabha members on June 17 and 18 due to her wedding festivities.
"We have come a long way. I am very happy to make it till here as we have had a lot of road-bumps and a lot of roller-coasters on the way.But I am very happy to have her by my side and support her in everything she does," Nikhil told reporters.
Nusrat Jahan has been at the receiving end of trolls and criticism lately. She and TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty, also an actor-turned-MP of TMC was criticised for dressing it formal trouser and top and taking selfies on their first day at Parliament.
She was also criticised by Muslim clerics for sporting vermillion and bangles during her oath-taking ceremony in Parliament, after the wedding. A fatwa was also issued against her. Nusrat Jahan hit back at the critics saying she represents an "inclusive India". In a post, which she shared on Twitter, Nusrat Jahan wrote that "faith is beyond attire".
