Vijay's next film, Bigil, is set to complete shooting with its final schedule on August 10 according to reports. This would put the film firmly on track (and on schedule) for a Diwali release — where it will face off against a movie by the other Vijay in Tollywood, Sanga Tamizhan, starring Vijay Sethupathi.
Bigil will see 'Thalapathy' Vijay play the role of a women's football coach, with movie promising to be a sports-based and inspiring 'mass entertainer'. The film's promotional releases have set social media alight, such as the Singappenney 'women's anthem' and music video.
This will be Vijay's 83rd movie. It is directed by Atlee Kumar who has also directed two C. Joseph Vijay films and has worked on Enthiran. The film is produced by AGS Entertainment and will also star Jackie Shroff, Anandraj, Daniel Balaji, Yogi Babu, and Kathir. The women footballers will be played by the likes of Indhuja Ravichandran, Reba Monica John and Varsha Bollamma. The music is composed by A.R. Rahman with the lyrics written by Vivek. Anal Arasu will coordinate the stunts while GK Vishnu will be in charge of the cinematography.
In Bigil, Vijay will play a women's football team coach who wants to avenge the death of his friend. From what is known based on the music video, he will be coaching the Tamil Nadu women's football team.
The film will see Vijay and Nayanthara acting together after a gap of ten years. Their last film together was Villu (2009). Vijay will also be playing a double role in this film, as both a father and as a son.
This year, Diwali is expected to fall on October 27, which is when the film will release.
