In a historic move on Monday, the Government of India scrapped Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The Narendra Modi government announced it was bifurcating Jammu and Kashmir—Jammu and Kashmir as one Union Territory and Ladakh as another. The announcement came after Home Minister Amit Shah moved a bill to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Shah introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill to push for bifurcation of the state.

The decision was met with massive uproar from the opposition. Bollywood celebrities, too, are reacting to the latest developments.

Dia Mirza prayed for peace in Kashmir.

Kangana Ranaut who has openly supported Narendra Modi and the BJP on several occasions, issued a statement on Instagram, hailing the decision. She wrote, “Scrapping of article 370 was long due, it is a historic step in the direction of a terrorism-free nation. I have been emphasising on this for the longest time, and I knew if any one could achieve this impossible feat that is Mr. Modi. He is not only a visionary, but he also has the required courage and strength of character to make unthinkable a reality... I congratulate the entire Bharat including JnK on this historic day, we are together looking at a very bright future.”

Right after the state's top political leaders including Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Sajad Lone tweeted about being put under house arrest on Sunday, Anupam Kher tweeted: “Kashmir solution has begun.”

Filmmakers Ashoke Pandit and Madhur Bhandarkar also hailed the decision.

Zaira Wasim, who hails from Kashmir, had tweeted yesterday: “This too shall pass.” The 18-year-old actress recently 'quit' Bollywood as she felt acting was affecting her relationship with her religion.
