Vidya Balan is one of the most sought-after actors of Bollywood today. Despite the many highs and lows in her career, she is considered to be a highly bankable actor who can deliver a hit without having a male co-star to shoulder the burden.

However, the actor didn't have it easy. Just like the many aspiring actors wanting to make it big in the industry, she too had her period of struggles and negative experiences. In one of her recent interviews with an entertainment portal, she narrated the unpleasant experiences she had.

Talking about her days of struggle, she said she was replaced in as many as 12 films and was thrown out of a Tamil movie in the beginning of her career. “I remember there was a Tamil film I was doing. I was thrown out of the film. My parents had come down to Chennai as they were worried for me. I had really began to fade. We went to the producer's office and the producer showed us the clippings of the film and said 'look at her, does she look like a heroine'....”

She said after this, she could not even look at the mirror because she thought she was ugly. She, however, added that the negative experiences that she had made her realise that she has to love and accept the way that she is.

“There was a Tamil film I was doing and it was fixed up on the phone. Those days they would not come and meet you or anything. They would narrate it to you on the phone and they would tell you about the clothes....It was not organised in the way we are today. I committed to the film. I land up in Chennai and I shot for a day and I was really uncomfortable with the humour. I don't know if it was a sex comedy,” the actor said. She further said she opted out of the movie because she was uncomfortable with the role and the situation. She was the served a legal notice for the same.

Speaking about another experience that she had, she said, once when she she was in Chennai, a director came to meet her. Although she said they could meet in a coffee shop, the director kept insisting that they meet in the room. She said they met in her room, but she kept the door of the room open, and he left within five minutes.

Recalling the first time she went for an audition, the actor said it was for a television series when she was a student. She said she saw a poster announcing that there was an audition for the series and decided to go for it.

The actor said it was her sister who helped her to get the make-up ready for a photoshoot for the pictures to be sent to the producers of the series.

The actor said she received an invitation for the audition and went for it. She had to wait for hours to finally get the audition. Although she was selected and shot for the show, it was eventually cancelled as the channel for which it was being shot for never went on air.
