A Shiv Sena member has filed a police complaint against Netflix India and shows like Sacred Games, Ghoul and Leila, for ''defaming Hindus and India'. According to ANI, Ramesh Solanki, a member of the Shiv Sena IT cell, cited examples of series like Sacred Games, Leila, and Ghoul, along with shows of standup comedian Hasan Minhaj to accuse Netflix of trying to "paint an incorrect picture of Hindus and India globally."
"Almost every series on Netflix India is with the intention to defame the country on a global level. It is with deep-rooted Hinduphobia that the platform is portraying the nation in a bad light," Solanki has stated in his complaint.
"I urge the authorities to look into all of the above-mentioned content and take the necessary steps from summoning their team to cancelling their licenses as deemed fit. One cannot allow an incorrect generalisation based on bogus rhetoric trying to defame a religious minority, that is, Hindu in countries other than India," he added.
He has urged for legal action against Netflix.
This is not the first time a politician has raked up a legal threat against Netflix and its India Originals. In August, Delhi Akali Dal Manjinder Singh Sirsa has warned of legal action against Netflix series Sacred Games for offending sentiments of the Sikh community. He was referring to a scene in which Saif Ali Khan's character Sartaj throws away his 'kada', which is a religious symbol of the Sikhs. He demanded director Anurag Kashyap to remove the scene immediately, or face legal consequences
