Lata Mangeshkar turned 90 on Staurday

National award-winning playback singer K.S. Chitra has always looked up to India' nightingale, Lata Mangeshkar, a her role model in music. And receiving a phone call from none other than Lata 10 years ago still remains one of Chitra's most cherished moments.

Speaking about it to Manorama, Chitra said it was after her husband and she produced an album 'Nightingale' as a tribute to Lata on the occasion of her 80th birthday. Chitra sang some of Lata's iconic numbers for the music album. Her husband suggested she send a copy of the album to Lata; Chitra was reluctant as she considered herself just one of Lata's innumerable fans who attempted at singing her classic songs. Nevertheless, she sent a copy to Lata. A few days later, she received a call from Lata. “ I wouldn't believe it at first,” said Chitra. The voice on the other side said: “Chitraji, Lataji wants to talk to you.”

Chitra still remembers the lovely voice that spoke to her next—that of Lata Mangeshkar. “Chitraji, I got your record. I could not write back to you as I am unwell.” A dumbfounded Chitra could only say 'thank you', she recalled.

As Lata Mangeshkar turned 90 on Saturday, Chitra reminisces this sweetest memory and wished the veteran singer the best of health and long life.
