Veteran actor Mammootty is known for the wide variety of roles he has played on the big screen, and is awaiting release of his magnum opus Mamangam. What has sent social media into a tizzy is Mammootty's new look from Mamangam that was released on the cover page of Malayalam magazine Vanitha. This was as part of the film's promotional activities.

The photo has him with feminine features including long hair, ear studs and a rudraksh chain on his neck. This is probably the first time the actor is seen in such an avatar. The photo is being widely shared on social media.

The film which was scheduled to release November 21, has been pushed to December 12 according to reports. Delay in the visual effects works is being cited as the reason.

The lavishly-mounted film will see the 67-year-old actor in the role of a warrior. The story is set against a religious festival held once every 12 years at Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharatapuzha in Kerala.

"I felt I should not let this opportunity go. It is my duty as an actor to bring historical stories and characters and their bravery on screen, especially for the younger generation. I should act like a bridge between cinema and history and audience," Mammootty had said earlier.

Directed by M. Padmakumar, the film also stars Unni Mukundan, Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Tarun Raj Arora, Prachi Tehlan, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan and Siddique among others.
