On Sunday night, as JNU saw a wave of violence unleash on its campus, actress Swara Bhasker tweeted a video in which she was seen appealing people to gather in large numbers at the campus gate to stop mob violence. She broke down in video, worried about the safety of her parents who live on the campus. Swara's mother Ira Bhaskar is a professor at the JNU.

"Urgent appeal!!!! To all Delhiites PLS gather in large numbers outside the Main Gate of JNU campus on Baba Gangnath Marg.. to pressure the govt. & #DelhiPolice to stop the rampage by alleged ABVP masked goons on JNU campus," she tweeted.

Later, Swara once again took to Instagram to inform that her family is safe, and she thanked all who turned up at the campus in support. “My mom is safe. JNU is peaceful for now and the gates are open! BIGGEST and Most HEARTFELT thanks to everyone who reached out today with concern and wishes,” she wrote on Instagram.

Besides Swara, actors Shabana Azmi, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and Taapsee Pannu, and filmmakers Aparna Sen and Hansal Mehta on Sunday condemned the violence at the JNU and urged Delhi Police to intervene.

Violence broke out at JNU on Sunday night after masked men armed with sticks attacked students and teachers and damaged property on the campus, prompting the administration to call in police. At least 18 people were injured and admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). JNU students' union president Aishe Ghosh suffered a head injury.
