Actress Shilpa Shetty welcomed her second child earlier this year through surrogacy. In a recent interview, she spoke of her health issues, motherhood and why she decided to opt for surrogacy.
In February, Shilpa and husband Raj Kundra announced the birth of their daughter Samisha. They have a seven-year-old son Viaan. Opening about surrogacy, Shilpa revealed that had suffered multiple miscarriages. After Viaan, I did want to have another child for the longest time. But I suffered from an auto immune disease called APLA and that came into play every time I get pregnant. So I had a couple of miscarriages so it was a genuine issue," the 44-year-old actress told Pinkvilla.
She added that she did not want Viaan growing up as a single child. She also revealed that the couple had considered adopting a baby, but that, too, did not work out. “At that time when I wanted to adopt, I had put in my name and everything was underway but then, the Christian missionary shut down because they had a tiff with CARA," she told Pinkvilla. "I waited for nearly four years and then, I was so irritated and we decided to try the surrogacy route. We had Samisha after three attempts. I had honestly given up on the thought of another child," she said.
On Mother’s Day, he shared an adorable post with her kids. “To the two halves of my heart Viaan and Samisha: You both complete me. I love you,” she wrote.
She had also posted a video with fans when Samisha turned two months old. She thanked everyone for their support and blessings. “So grateful for all the love & blessings that you have showered on my family and me over the years... humbled beyond words. Hope you continue to stand by us, rock solid, even in the years to come,” she wrote.
Shilpa and Raj got married in November 2009 and welcomed their son Viaan in May 2012. In an earlier post, Shilpa had explained the origin of her daughter's name —'Sa' in Sanskrit is 'to have' and 'Misha' is Russian stands for 'someone like God'.
