The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, ordered a probe by the CBI into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput —a move that the Bihar government and the state police called a big win.
The apex court delivered its verdict on a plea by Rhea Chakraborty, who had sought transfer of an FIR, lodged against her in Patna for allegedly abetting the suicide of Rajput, to Mumbai. The approval to the CBI probe came as the top court observed that Mumbai Police was not cooperative with the Patna Police team that reached Mumbai to probe the death, and added that this gave rise to suspicion over the bona fide of the inquiry.
In her plea, Chakraborty had stated that the case was being blown out of proportion as the assembly polls in Bihar are nearing, and claimed that the FIR was filed in the state as the chief minister too got involved in the matter.
When asked about the actor's claim, Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey said on Wednesday, “Bihar ke mukhyamantri pe comment karne ki aukaat Rhea Chakraborty ki nahi hai, (Rhea Chakraborty does not have the stature to comment on Bihar chief minister). Further, he said the Patna Police was carrying out the investigation into the actor's death by the book.
Pandey also thanked the Bihar chief minister for extending support to the state police to ensure justice to the late actor.
