Tamil filmmaker Thamira passed away on Tuesday due to COVID-19 related complications in a private hospital in Chennai. Thamira, who assisted veteran directors like K. Balachander and Bharathiraja, has directed films Aan Devathai, Rettai Suzhi.
Thamira has also helmed a web series called My Perfect Husband, according to reports. The series is set to release on Disney Plus Hotstar.
Thamira’s death has come as a shock to Kollywood, and tributes are pouring in for the filmmaker. The Tamil film industry hasn’t yet recovered from the sudden death of actor-comedian Vivek, who passed away on April 17 after suffering a heart attack.
Director Shankar expressed his condolences to the family. He tweeted: “I am deeply saddened to know about Director Thamira's sudden demise. I convey my deepest condolences to his family and friends. May his soul Rest in Peace.”

Tamil Nadu recorded 15,684 positive cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the state tally to 10,97,672. The state recorded 94 deaths on Monday, putting the state toll at 13,651.
