Director Mari Selvaraj's latest political thriller Maamannan has been performing well at the box office. According to reports, the film which arrived in theatres on Thursday, crossed the Rs 25 crore mark during the opening weekend. The film is reportedly Udhayanidhi Stalin's last outing as an actor as he is set to focus fully on his political career.

As a token of gratitude for the film's success, Udhayanidhi gifted a luxury car to director Mari Selvaraj on Sunday. Maamannan was produced by Udhayanidhi's company Red Giant Movies. Taking to Twitter, the actor-producer thanked Mari Selvaraj for giving wings to Maamannan. Everyone discusses it differently. They share ideas relating their thoughts to the story and the field. It has become a hotly debated topic among Tamils around the world. Our leaders like Ambedkar, Periyar, Anna, and Kalaignar have inculcated the sense of self-respect and social justice thoughts in the young generation. A huge commercial success as well. @RedGiantMovies_ Company is pleased to present a Mini Cooper car to @mari_selvaraj sir. Thanks to my Mari Selvaraj sir for giving wings to ‘Mamannan’ to fly around the world,” he wrote in Tamil.

The film is said to be the highest opening for Udhayanidhi in his acting career, Times of India reported. Maamannan also features Vadivelu, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh in pivotal roles.

Mari Selvaraj, known for hard-hitting films like Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan, told Indian Express that he picked Vadivelu for the titular character because he drew a connection between the actor and the innocence portrayed in his roles, which resonated with memories of his own father.
