'Jailer', 'Gadar 2' and 'OMG 2' I-Day collection: Indian box office rakes in Rs 140cr on Aug 15

The Indian box office is on a roll this week as the triple treat brought in by 'Jailer', 'Gadar 2' and 'OMG 2' continued to enthrall movie-goers across the country. After collecting Rs 390 crore in the August 11 to 13 weekend, Indian movies collectively raked in Rs 140 crore on Augus 15.

Independence Day witnessed more than 75 lakh people flocking to cinema halls across India compared to 2.1 movie-goers in the previous weekend.

Rajinikanth starrer 'Jailer', which opened big by minting Rs 150 crore in the first weekend across 450 screens, scored only Rs 42 crore on Independence Day. The latest collection figures take the total collection of the Tamil movie to Rs 234 crore, reported Pinkvilla.

Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' collected Rs 65 crore on Tuesday, minting a total of Rs 263 crore in the first five days. 'Gadar 2' scored Rs 135 crore during the first weekend alone.

Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2' minted Rs 20 crore on Independence Day after collecting Rs 43.56 crore in the first weekend. This makes the total collection of the 'OMG' sequel to Rs 80 crore.

These three movies together grossed around Rs 127 crore, while releases from the previous weeks raked in Rs 13 crore collectively.

Karan Johar directorial 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' minted Rs 4 crore and Chiranjeevi’s 'Bholaa Shankar' raked in Rs 3 crore. Hollywood movies like Christopher Nolan directorial 'Oppenheimer', Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie', Tom Cruise-starrer 'Mission Impossible 7' and others collected around Rs 5 crore together. Of these, 'Oppenheimer' alone scored Rs 2 crore on Tuesday.

Following the weekend box office collection, Producers Guild of India President Shibasish Sarkar stated earlier, “The turnout at theatres has infused a new energy in our industry, audiences are responding in numbers we have not seen for a very long time, even the early morning shows are getting sold out.
