True story of fishermen arrested by Pakistan?

Reportedly based on true incidents, the film revolves around a fishing community. Naga Chaitanya and Mondeti had visited a fishing village in Srikakulam in August to understand the culture and lifestyle of the community.

Speaking to media earlier, Mondeti said that the the real incident happened in 2018 and is a story about the village's locals who went to work in fishing boats in Gujarat. Producer Bunny Vas further said: “The mentioned incident moved Delhi and also shook Karachi in Pakistan.”

Though the team has not divulged more details about the film, their statements remind us of 22 fishermen who were arrested by Pakistani security agency off the coast of Gujarat on espionage charges in 2018.

The fishermen hailed from Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts of Andhra Pradesh. All of them were jailed in a prison in Karachi, and were allowed to write to their family members once. They were released only in May 2023, following agreements between the governments of India and Pakistan.
