Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 has crossed the lifetime earnings of Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster Pathaan. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Gadar 2, with Rs 542.75 crore at the domestic box office now, is the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
"Gadar 2 crosses lifetime biz of Pathaan (Hindi) (Rs 524.53 cr)] in India. Now No. 1 highest grossing film in Hindi in India," posted Taran Adarsh with a breakdown of the film's earnings so far. The Sunny Deol-starrer, running in its seventh week in theatres, raked in Rs 2.75 crore on Wednesday.
Gadar 2 earlier broke another box office record held by Pathaan—fastest film to cross Rs 500 crore in the country. Shah Rukh Khan's latest outing Jawan, directed by Atlee, is currently at almost Rs 520 crore, according to reports, and could challenge Gadar 2 and Pathaan over the week.
Responding to the film's overwhelming response, actor Sunny Deol had said he was stressed before the release—Gadar 2 locked horns with other biggies like Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 and Rajinikanth's Jailer at the Indian box office.
A sequel to Deol's 2001 hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, the Anil Sharma directorial also features Ameesha Patel in the lead. Gadar 2 is set in 1971 and follows Tara Singh's journey to Pakistan to rescue his son. The original was set during the Partition period.
