On September 27, when the makers of ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay starrer ‘Leo’ announced their decision to cancel the audio launch due to excessive requests for passes and logistical support, the fans were in for huge disappointment as audio launches of Vijay films are the events where he meets and greets the fans in person. However, the makers of the film promised to flood fans with regular updates about the film.
The second single from the film ‘Badass’ was released on Thursday evening. Composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the lyric video has become a viral hit among Vijay fans and the video has crossed 9 million views in less than a day. Helmed by Lokesh Kanakaraj, Leo’s second single celebrates Leo Das, the titular role played by Vijay in the film. The song’s lyrics, penned by Vishnu Edavan explain Leo Das’ character, hinting that he is from the same family as Antony Das, the role played by Sanjay Dutt and Harold Das, the role played by Arjun Sarja.
Sung by Anirudh, the video has interesting illustrative visuals inspired by promotional videos of the film released earlier. The visuals also offer glimpses of Antony Das and Harold Das.
The first look poster of the film was released in June this year showing Vijay in the middle of a bloody fight armed with a sledgehammer. The first single ‘Na ready thaa varava’ was released subsequently, which made his fans go frenzy sensing his imminent political plunge.
Scheduled to be released on October 19, Leo is the next big release in Tamil Nadu, at a time when Vijay had expressed his political ambitions. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj after his huge success with Vijay in Master and Kamal Hassan in Vikram, Leo has raised expectations among Vijay fans as well as those who keenly watch Lokesh’s cinematic universe. Lokesh’s previous films - Kaithi, Master and Vikram, all had well-written screenplays related to the underworld drug mafia nad high-octane action sequences.
