Noted slasher movie franchise "Scream" fired actor Melissa Barrera over her pro-Palestine social media posts amidst the ongoing Hamas-Israel war, reports said. According to the production company Spyglass, Mexican national Melissa Barrera's contract was terminated ahead of the release of the franchise's 7th movie instalment after the said posts were found "anti-semitic" in nature.
Commenting on the decision to fire the actor who reportedly served the lead role in two recent 'Scream' movies, Spyglass said it had "zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form". She was reportedly to play the lead role in the upcoming project as well.
According to media reports, Melissa Barrera is accused of posting and resharing posts that accused Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing” following IDF's invasion of the Gaza Strip.
The actor is yet to react to the development.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday welcomed the agreement reached by Israel and Hamas to release hostages in Gaza, describing it as an important step in the right direction but said that much more needs to be done.
Israel and Hamas agreed on Wednesday to a temporary four-day ceasefire to allow the release of 50 hostages held by the militant group in Gaza in exchange for 150 Palestinian detainees and the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged territory.
The deal, once implemented at 10 am onwards on Thursday, will be the first major diplomatic breakthrough and pause in fighting since the war began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7.
