Popular South Indian actor and musician R. Subbalakshmi, known for playing the role of grandmother in several movies, passed away due to age-related illnesses on Thursday. She was 87.
Subbalaskhmi is the mother of noted actor and dancer Thara Kalyan.
She rose to fame with her role in Dileep-starrer Kalyanaraman.
Subbalaskhmi also acted in various Tamil movies including Vijay-starrer Beast.
She began her professional career with All India Radio in 1951.
Some of her popular movies include CID Moosa, Sound Thoma, Nandanam, One, and Rani Padmini among others. She has also acted in Kannada and Telugu cinema apart from Malayalam and Tamil movies.
