Google trends 2023: Most searched movies and shows

Google has released its list of most searched movies and shows for the year 2023. The year has had some major films like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ and TV shows like ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘One Piece’. Three Indian films have made it into the list, including two starring Shah Rukh Khan. The TV shows space has mostly been dominated by English and Korean shows.

‘Barbie’ is the most searched movie of the year, followed by ‘Oppenheimer’. The simultaneous release of these movies led to the word 'Barbieheinmer' trending online.

Shah Rukh Khan starred in two of the three top most searched movies globally. ‘Jawan’ ranked third and ‘Pathaan’ ranked 10th on the list—these two are also the most searched movies in India. 'Pathaan’ was released in January and broke several box-office records which were then broken by ‘Jawan’ in September. Jawan had a collection of Rs. 1,148 and Pathaan has raked in a total of Rs. 1,050.

‘Gadar 2’ is the other Indian movie that made it to the list of most searched movies, ranking eighth. A squeal to 2001's Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, this Gadar 2 collected Rs. 691.08 worldwide.

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, released March 11, 2022, and was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and won seven, including Best Picture and Best Director was ranked seventh in the list. The other movies mentioned in the list include ‘Sound of Freedom’, ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, and ‘Creed III’.

In TV shows, Netflix dominated the list with more than five TV shows. ‘The Last of Us’ is the most searched show of 2023; it is one of the few shows that is not from Netflix. The main lead of the show, Pedro Pascal, ranked fourth among the most searched actors. Tim Burton’s Netflix show ‘Wednesday’ ranked second—the popularity of the show did not diminish even though it came out in 2022. Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday, is the second most searched actor of 2023.

Another Netflix show that made it to the list is ‘Ginny & Georgia’, ranking third. ‘One Piece’, the live-action adaptation of the manga of the same name, is ranked fourth. ‘Kaleidoscope’ is ranked fifth. There are two non-English TV shows, ‘King of the Land’ and ‘The Glory’, ranking sixth and seventh. The other most searched TV shows include ‘The ‘90s Show’, ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ and ‘Shadow and Bone’.
