Veteran Bengali actor Sreela Majumdar passed away on Saturday aged 65. According to media reports, the popular artist has been battling cancer for the past three years.
The news of Sreela Majumdar's demise was broken by her husband news reports said. He said Majumdar breathed her last at their residence.
Reacting to Majumdar's passing, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the state will miss her stellar presence.
"Saddened by the news of the demise of film actress Sreela Majumdar today afternoon. Sreela was a noted and powerful actress who played outstanding roles in several significant Indian films. It is a big loss for Bengal film industry and we shall miss her stellar presence. My condolences to her family," the CM jotted on X (formerly Twitter).
Sreela was introduced to the film industry by the legendary Mrinal Sen at the age of 16. Mrinal cast her in as many as six movies, reports said. She worked with iconic actors including Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Smita Patil.
The actress is survived by her husband SNM Abdi and son Sohail Abdi.
