The first look of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi is out. Netflix shared the clip on Instagram. The first series by the master of grandeur, features of stellar cast-- Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha and Sonakshi Sinha to name a few. The series looks grand and enticing as expected. Bhansali has previously made movies like Devdas and Bajirao Mastani, which featured grand sets and equally resplendent costumes.
Heeramandi was a walled city in pre-independence India, where courtesans lived. The series explores the stories of love and betrayal of the courtesans in the dazzling Diamond Market. It explores the city's culture; the relationship of the courtesans with their customers and more amid the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle of the 1940s.
Actor Manisha Koirala and Aditi Rao Hydari shared the first look on their Instagram handles too. Sharing the video, Hydari wrote, “The first ever series from Sanjay Leela Bhansali, set in a dazzling world- Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, coming soon only on Netflix! We can’t wait to share his glorious vision with everyone!! #Heeramandi #HeeramandiOnNetflix. Release date of the series hasn't been announced yet.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in an interview with ANI last year, said, "Heeramandi is an important milestone in my journey as a filmmaker. This is an epic, first-of-its-kind series based on the courtesans of Lahore. It is an ambitious, grand and all-encompassing series; therefore I am nervous yet excited about making it. I am looking forward to my partnership with Netflix and bringing Heeramandi to audiences all over the world."
