The much-awaited annual Academy Awards ceremony is around the corner and fans are hoping that their favourite actors, directors and movies will bag the coveted award in various categories.
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2024 Oscars, marking his second consecutive year in the role. The ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will be held at the Dolby Theatre (formerly Kodak Theatre) in Hollywood.
Oppenheimer is leading the race with 13 major nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and acting nominations for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt. Besides the Christopher Nolan directorial, films nominated in the Best Picture category include American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest.
In the Best Director category, the big names are Nolan for Oppenheimer and Martin Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon. Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest), Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) and Justin Triet (Anatomy of a Fall) are also in the race.
Besides Best Director, Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon landed 10 more nods including Best Actress nomination for Lily Gladstone and Best Supporting Actor nomination for Robert De Niro. Greta Gerwig's Barbie won eight nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor nominations for Ryan Gosling and Best Song.
