Alec Baldwin asks judge to dismiss manslaughter charges in 'Rust' shooting case

Baldwin, who is set to stand trial, has accused the prosecutors of bias

A shooting incident on the sets of 'Rust' starring Alec Baldwin, and involved the actor, resulted in the death of the cinematographer of the film, Halyna Hutchins. The incident involving the actor has led to him being charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The incident took place in 2021. Baldwin, who is set to stand trial, has accused the prosecutors of bias in pursuit of charges against him. Baldwin maintains that he has never pulled the trigger.

Baldwin's legal team is also accusing prosecutors of misconduct. About a week ago, a jury found the movie's armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty of killing Hutchins.

The judge ordered the 26-year-old armourer placed into the custody of deputies. Lead defense attorney Jason Bowles said afterwards that Gutierrez-Reed will appeal the conviction, which carries a penalty of up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Baldwin was said to be holding the gun when it went off killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Bowles also said, it was not in the script for Mr. Baldwin to point the weapon and that Gutierrez-Reed couldn't have foreseen that Baldwin would do what he did. She faces a potential 18-month prison sentence and fines.
