Two unidentified persons opened fired outside actor Salman Khan's residence in Mumbai's Bandra area in the wee hours of Sunday morning, according to police.
The duo on motorbike shot four rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments in Bandra around 5 am before speeding away, officials said.
Police have launched an investigation into the shooting incident. A forensic team has collected evidence from the spot.
Reports, citing offical sources, claimed that police suspect that Lawrence Bishnoi's gang is involved in the incident, considering previous threats against the actor.
In two separate incidents in March and November last year, the actor received death threats from gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. The gang targeted Khan allegedly due to his 1998 blackbuck hunting incident, which the gang claims offended the Bishnoi community. Blackbucks are considered sacred by the community.
Following this, Khan's security cover have been upgraded to Y-Plus category. The actor also bought a bulletproof Nissan SUV after the incident. It is not clear if the police will review the actor's security in the wake of the latest incident.
Bishnoi is currently in prison in connection with a drug smuggling case being probed by the National Investigation Agency.
