Actor Ranveer Singh filed an FIR after a deepfake video of him circulated promoting a political party. The footage was taken from Singh's visit to Varanasi. The voice, which sounded like Singh's was generated using artificial intelligence. In the video, Singh reportedly says that the BJP government has failed to keep up its campaign promises. It ends with the Congress symbol and slogan, “Vote for Justice, Vote for Congress.”
Recently, actor Aamir Khan was a victim of a deepfake video, which, again showed the actor supporting a political party. A spokesperson for Khan said, he never promoted any political party. Khan also lodged an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police.
Singh in the meanwhile, took to Twitter and wrote, “Deepfake se bacho dostonnnn. (Beware of deepfakes, friends).” Singh and Kriti Sanon had recently visited Varanasi after walking the ramp for deisnger Manish Malhotra at Namo Ghat.
So far, actors Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol and Alia Bhatt have been victims of AI-generated deepfake videos. There was a clip of Mandanna wearing revealing clothes entering an elevator, which was circulated, while a picture of Bhatt wearing a negligee in a suggestive pose came out and then there was a clip of actor Kajol changing clothes, that went viral.
Singh's deepfake video came to his notice after A Congress spokesperson, Sujata Paul, shared the video with her 16,000 followers on X on April 17 and by Saturday afternoon, her post had been reshared 2,900 times, liked 8,700 times and received 438,000 views, Reuters reported.
