Speculations are rife that ace Kollywood director Gautham Vasudev Menon, popular for movies like Vaaranam Aayiram and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, will direct his first Malayalam movie soon.
The movie is likely to be headlined by Mammootty. According to media reports, the actor will also be producing the movie. Mammootty owns the production house Mammootty Kampany, which has produced movies like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, Kaathal - The Core and Kannur Squad in the past.
A tweet by entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai read: "Almost confirmed #GauthamMenon to direct his first Malayalam film with #Mammootty as hero and producer!"
There are also media reports that said popular South Indian star Nayanthara will be paired opposite Mammootty in the movie. Mammootty and Nayanthara were last seen together in the 2016 crime thriller drama Puthiya Niyamam, directed by A. K. Sajan. Nayanthara, who made her acting debut in Mollywood, and Mammootty have acted together in the 2005 family drama Rappakal as well.
There are also reports that said the movie is being penned by those behind the script of the comedy-drama ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead.
However, there has been no official announcement regarding the project yet.
On the work front, Mammootty will be next seen in the high-octane action thriller Turbo which is set to hit theatres on May 23. The movie is directed by Vysakh and written by Midhun Manuel Thomas. Turbo will also see popular Sandalwood actor Raj B Shetty making his Mollywood debut.
Nayanthara was last seen in the Tamil movie Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food.
