After a long silence, that lasted for about five years, popular indie music band Peter Cat Recording Co. (PCRC) released their new single ‘People Never Change’ on Thursday. It is the lead single of their soon-to-be-released album ‘Beta’.

Said to be recorded across three continents, ‘People Never Change’ is a six-minute track. It has three parts- starts with a two-minute bhangra-inspired piece, it drops into a ‘Memory Box’ style in the next part and to end, they have slowed down, have mixed both the styles together to bring an interesting output; experimentalism is at its peak here.

Peter Cat’s own Suryakant Sawhney (aka Lifafa), Kartik Pillai (aka Jamblu) and Dhruv Bhola have produced the album. After Bismillah, released in 2019, PCRC fans have been waiting for their comeback for a long time.

If you are a fan of indie music, there is no way you could have missed Peter Cat Recording Co., One of the few remaining bands in India. “Imagined as a radio station from the near future, or a vinyl from the distant past” is definitely the best way to describe them. It is almost nearly impossible to box them into a certain genre. With a blend of jazz, disco, gypsy, psychedelic rock and many more, each of Peter Cat’s tracks is a door to a new world.

Revealing the interesting story behind the name of their new album ‘Beta’, the band said ‘Beta’ was just one of the five names they had in mind. They let drummer Karan Singh’s six-month-old son point out a name among the five. Ironically, the beta (son) chose Beta’. “This is a collection of stories about the future told 50 years in the past, to make sense of the present, on our only home, planet Earth,” it said in a statement.

They have also announced a 77-city world tour, Good Luck BETA ’24, its most extensive one yet. Starting in North America in August, the tour will end in India, in December. The tickets are available at https://laylo.com/pcrc/m/BETA24.
