Popular South Indian actor Fahadh Faasil recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder), which is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults.
Fahadh Faasil, during the inauguration of Peace Valley School which is meant for kids with special needs, revealed that was diagnosed with the disorder at the age of 41. The school is located in Kothamangalam of Ernakulam in Kerala.
"While walking through the premises of the school, I asked whether it is easy to cure ADHD. I was told, If diagnosed during childhood, it is possible. I asked whether it could be cured if diagnosed at 41. That was when I was clinically diagnosed with ADHD,” Fahadh Faasil has been quoted as saying.
“I know only to say my dialogues (in films), but I do not know what to say on stage. I occasionally tell my mom and wife (actor-producer Nazriya Nazim) that I do not have the maturity for that,” the actor further said.
What is ADHD
ADHD is a disorder that is characterised by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, emotional dysregulation that are excessive, pervasive, and age-inappropriate.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR), people suffering from ADHD often fail to give close attention to details or make careless mistakes, have difficulty sustaining attention in tasks, and often do not seem to listen when spoken to directly.
The patients also find it difficult to organise tasks and activities, fail to follow instructions, and are often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli.
