THEATRE RELEASES

 

1. Chandu Champion

Release date: June 14 

The highly anticipated Kartik Aaryan's 'Chandu Champion' is a biopic of Muralikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medalist, who transitioned from a boxer and soldier to an athlete. Set against the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle, Murali's journey from taking nine bullets for his country to being the first gold medal winner in the Paralympics shows sheer determination amidst setbacks. The movie is directed by Kabir Khan and has gained praise for Kartik Aaryan's character transformation. 

2. Maharaja

Release date : June 14 

Another entry to the silver screen this week is Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film 'Maharaja'.  Written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan the film tells the story of a barber who seeks revenge after his home gets burglarized. Alongside Vijay Sethupathi, the film boasts an ensemble cast including Mamta Mohandas, Anurag Kashyap, Divya Bharti and Abhirami among others. 

3. The Watchers

Release date: June 14 

Ishana Night Shyamalan's directorial debut is loosely based on a novel by the Irish horror writer A. M. Shine. ‘The  Watchers’ is a supernatural horror that revolves around a young artist portrayed by Dakota  Fanning who finds shelter in a creepy cabin with three other strangers, where mysterious creatures stalk them through a one-way window. Georgina Campbell and Oliver Finnegan essay pivotal roles in the film. 

4. Grrr..

Release date: June 14 

Jay K's second directorial 'Grrr..' is set to hit the marquee this week. Inspired by absurd real-life events, the movie looks into how a drunk man essayed by Kunchacko Boban deliberately jumps into a lion's cage in a zoo and how the zookeeper played by Suraj Venjaramoodu attempts to save him. The movie promises truckloads of fun and laughter riots. Shruti Ramachandran, Anagha Maruthora and Alencier Lopez are among the other cast members in the film.

OTT RELEASES

1. Presumed Innocent 

Release date: June 12

Streaming Platform: Apple TV+

Jake Gyllenhaal's legal thriller has all the ingredients to put you on the edge of your seat. Based on Author Scott  Turow's 1987 novel of the same name, the series revolves around a murder that took place in Chicago's prosecuting attorney's office. This limited series stars Renate Reinsve, Ruth Negga, Chase Infiti and Peter  Saarsgaard.

2. The Boys Season 4 

Release date: June 13

Streaming  Platform: Amazon Prime Video

The boys are back. Eric Kripke's satirical series starring  Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and Erin Moriarty returns this week for its highly anticipated fourth season. This gripping show, known for its biting, dark humour, follows a group of rogue vigilantes as they take on corrupt superheroes who are up to no good. 

3. Bridgerton Season 3 (Part  2)

Release date: June 13

Streaming Platform: Netflix

Another much-awaited  release this week is the Regency-era romance starring Phoebe Dynevor, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Stokes, Luke Newton, Regé-Jean Page and Luke Thompson. The entire series is based on Julia Quinn's best-selling Bridgerton books which had successfully created a huge fanbase owing to its excellent character development, and rich production design. This concluding part two season three is a treat to all the fans who have been restless since the release of Bridgerton season 3 part 1.

4. Maharaj 

Release date: June  14

Streaming Platform: Netflix

Junaid Khan is all set to make his debut in Bollywood with 'Maharaj'. Set against the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle, the film tells the story of  Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer, who was a pioneering advocate for women’s rights and social reform in colonial India. The crux of the film revolves around the  Maharaj Libel Case of 1862. Produced by Aditya Chopra, this movie is Siddharth Malhotra's directorial.

5. The Fall Guy

Release date:  June 14

Streaming Platform: Amazon Prime Video

'The Fall Guy' revolves around a veteran stuntman, Colt Seavers, essayed by Ryan Gosling, who comes back to the sets from semi-retirement. Colt later finds himself investigating the disappearance of a movie star and also trying to reignite the spark between him and the movie's director, who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt. Written by Drew Pearce and directed by David Leitch, the film promises to be an action-packed, fun entertainer.

6. Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams 

Release date: June  14

Streaming Platform: Netflix

'Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams' is a mind-bending anthology of seven sci-fi and supernatural stories penned by Indonesian writer and filmmaker Joko Anwar. The series follows a group of ordinary people trying to save humanity from a looming threat. Even though the story is told across seven episodes, with new characters and events appearing in each one, everything becomes interconnected at the end. The series features Indonesian actors such as Ario Bayu, Marissa Anita, Lukman Sardi, and Nirina Zubir.
