Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba

Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey starrer 'Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba' is a sequel to 'Haseen Dillruba'. The second instalment will look into how Rani and Rishu take their marriage forward after a troubled past.  'Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba' is written by Kanika Dhillon and directed by Jayprad Desai. Produced by Colour Yellow Productions and T-Series, the film also features Sunny Kaushal and Kimmy Sheirgill.

Turbo 

Streaming platform: August 9

Directed by Vysakh and penned by Midhun Manuel Thomas the movie revolves around a jeep driver named Turbo Jose essayed by Mammootty and the troubles he gets himself into. Kannada actor Raj B. Shetty and Telugu comedian Sunil make their Mollywood debuts in this film. This marks the third collaboration between Mammootty and Vysakh, following 'Pokkiri Raja' (2010) and its spin-off, 'Madhura Raja' (2019). The movie boasts a star-studded cast, including Anjana Jayaprakash, Shabareesh Varma, Dileesh Pothan, Bindu Panicker, and Kabir Duhan Singh. The movie made its theatrical run in May.

Indian 2

Release date: Netflix

After its theatrical release, the highly anticipated sequel 'Indian 2' will be available on OTT platforms. The movie looks into Senapathy, essayed by Kamal Haasan, now an ageing freedom fighter, forced to fight the new age systems of corruption and modern social issues. ‘Indian 2' marks one of the last appearances of veteran actor Nedumudi Venu before his passing. It also features Siddharth, Rakul Preet and S.J. Suryah among others. The third instalment of the franchise is set to release this year. 

The Color Purple

Release date: August 8

The 2023 musical drama, directed by Blitz Bazawule, is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker of the same name. The story follows the life of Celie, a black woman enduring hardship and abuse in the American South during the early 1900s. The film boasts a stellar cast, including Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey and Fantasia Barrino who is making her film debut as Celie. 

Umbrella Academy - Season 4 

Streaming platform: August 8 

Release date: Netflix

The Hargreeves siblings return for the fourth and final season of the superhero series 'The Umbrella Academy'. An adaptation of a comic book series of the same name from Dark Horse Comics, the Emmy-nominated show revolves around a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father's death. Season 3 ended with a major twist where in the new timeline the sibilings no longer have their powers.

Borderlands

Release date: August 9

The highly anticipated action-comedy film is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name. Directed by Eli Roth, the movie features a star-studded cast including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Edgar Ramirez. The film follows Lilith, a mysterious outlaw, as she returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe's most powerful man. 

Adios Amigo

Release date: August 9

Asif Ali and Suraj Venjaramoodu starrer 'Adios Amigo' is set to hit the screens this week. The movie revolves around two strangers who meet at a bus stand and the adventures they face together.  The film is helmed by debutant Nahas Nazar and produced by Ashiq Usman. It also features Shine Tom Chacko,  Jinu Joseph, Anagha, Ganapathi and Althaf Salim in pivotal roles.
