Confirmed! Varun Dhawan in Anurag Singh's 'Border 2' to 'bring a valiant jawan’s story to screen'
JP Dutta war epic 'Border' remains one of his most favourite movies, Dhawan said
Director Anurag Singh's upcoming 'Border 2' will feature Varun Dhawan alongside Sunny Deol, it was confirmed on Friday. A sequel to JP Dutta's iconic 1997 war-drama 'Border', the movie is expected to release on January 23, 2026.

“Welcoming Fauji @varundvn to the Battalion of Border2,” wrote Sunny on X while sharing a video that confirmed the 'Student of The Year' actor's presence in the movie.
Confirming his role in 'Border 2' from his side, Varun Dhawan said getting to work with his childhood icon Sunny Deol is a special moment.
"JP Dutta sir’s war epic remains one of my most favourite movies to this day. To play a part in Border 2 produced by JP sir and Bhushan Kumar is a very, very special moment in my career. And I get to work with Sunny Paaji my hero makes it all the more special,” Dhawan said in an Instagram post while sharing a curtain-raiser video.
“I look forward to bring a valiant jawan’s story to screen in what promises to be India’s biggest war film. I seek your good wishes,” he added.
'Border 2' is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. It was announced on June 13, 2024, marking 27 years of 'Border'.
'Border' was based on the Battle of Longewala, a famous episode from the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
