Rape allegation: Actor Siddique was at hotel in 2016 for film preview, Thiruvananthapuram Police confirms

Veteran Malayalam actor Siddique, who is being probed for sexually assaulting an actor in 2016, had reserved a room in the Thiruvananthapuram Mascot Hotel, police found out. The hospitality establishment's registry showed that Siddique had checked in on January 28, 2016. This date matches the period mentioned by the survivor in her complaint.

Following the release of the Hema Committee report, a young female actor had alleged Siddique of sexual misconduct in 2016.

The complainant had said it was in January or February of 2016 that she was sexually assaulted by the actor during the preview of a movie. The data gathered from the establishment confirmed that the preview did take place, and Siddique was present for the event, ManoramaOnline said in a report.

The Kerala Police will record statements of hotel staff, the parents of the survivor and other attendees of the preview show as part of the probe against Siddique, the news report added.

According to the survivor, she was 21 years old, when the senior actor invited her to Mascot Hotel for a discussion. Siddique is accused of sexually assaulting the woman in his room before locking her up. She managed to flee later and was not let out intentionally, the complaint says. According to her complainant, many women in the industry had had similar "bad experiences" from Siddique.

Thiruvananthapuram Museum Police is investigating Siddique under IPC 376 and 506 for the rape of the woman. The 61-year-old actor had resigned as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (A.M.M.A) after the allegations surfaced.
