Kerala police have registered a case against 'Odiyan' director V.A. Shrikumar based on a sexual assault complaint filed by a junior artist in the Malayalam film industry.

The complaint was sent via email to DIG Ajitha Beegum, following which a case was filed at Marad Police Station in Kochi. The complainant said the director sexually assaulted her in a hotel room after inviting her under the pretense of acting in an advertisement.

Earlier, the complainant said she was in Uttarakhan on a pilgrimage with her family and sent the complaint via email as she cannot travel to Kerala soon. Her statement will be recorded on Sunday.

The survivor said she has also filed a complaint against actor Baburaj who allegedly sexually assaulted her at his home in Aluva in 2019. She claimed the actor told her a director was at his house and she would be cast in a feature film. However, when she went there, Baburaj allegedly entered the room where she was resting and sexually assaulted her.

"The offenders know my identity, so I don't think it is necessary to reveal it publicly," she told the news channel.

Baburaj had earlier rejected the allegations, claiming the complaint was filed in an attempt by vested interests to stop him from becoming the general secretary of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists).

The development comes after the release of Hema Committee Report, which has revealed alleged abuse of women in the Malayalam film industry.
