Reacting to allegations of sexual harassment against noted Malayalam directors and actors in the wake of revelations in the Justice K Hema Committee report, Mollywood superstar urged people to save the Malayalam movie industry and not destroy it. The actor welcomed the Hema Committee report and said those who are guilty should be punished.

"I haven't ran away anywhere. I was busy with some personal matters. I was in hospital as my wife was undergoing a surgery," the actor said.

Calling the allegations against the Mollywood film personalities unfortunate, Mohanlal said it is not right to target AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) alone and claimed that such incidents happen in all industries. "Hema Committee report speaks about the issue in film industry and the entire industry should respond to it. However, everyone is targetting only AMMA," Mohanlal said.

With a caveat that he cannot answer tough questions, Mohanlal said he is saddened by the allegations. Claiming that film industry is part of the society, Mohanlal observed that such incidents happen everywhere else.

He said he appeared before the Hema Committee and answered all the questions that were posed to him.

Mohanlal claimed that AMMA is doing a lot of good work for the society, but the general committee decided to disband it as Malayalam cinema as a whole should respond to it. He demanded to know if AMMA should react to every issue in the society.
