Was Kangana Ranaut a drug addict? The actor says never became alcoholic, item girl or prostitute

'I now know those were rave parties, I wouldn't go to such places now'

Popular Bollywood actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut refuted her earlier claims of having experimented with drugs at the beginning of her acting career.

The actor, who is busy with the promotions of her upcoming movie, Emergency, was asked about her earlier remarks about having tried drugs, in an interview.

In total contradiction to her earlier statements and an Instagram post, Kangana Ranaut said during an interview with Lallantop that when you are away from the protective environment that a family offers, it would be “futile” to say you haven't tried out things.

When you are a free-spirited person, everything around you intrigues you, Kangana Ranaut said. “When I was doing (the movie) Gangster, I played the role of an alcoholic. In the movie Woh Lamhe, I played someone who was suffering from bipolar disorder and Schizophrenia. In the movie Fashion, my character was a cocaine addict and had drug withdrawal symptoms. That was a phase,” she said, adding that all these could be called part of the method-acting process.

She said, unlike her younger days, she is more mature now. “I now know those were rave parties, I wouldn't go to such places now.”

She said she wanted to know what drugs were, how they would impact you, and what withdrawal felt like (as she had played an addict in Fashion), but she did not experiment with any drugs, instead did her research.

“I didn't experiment with any drugs; I just did my research. I met people, I spoke to them.”

She said she was a teenager who left home and found success in movies and had everything within her grasp. “She doesn't become an alcoholic, she doesn't become a drug addict, she doesn't become an item girl, she doesn't become a high society prostitute; she doesn't become so many things that the world wanted to make her. She becomes this person.”
