Malayalam actor Jayasurya has finally broken his silence on his birthday after two cases were filed against him, saying the "false allegations" have shattered him, his family and everyone who has held him close.

He began his open letter by thanking those who wished him on his birthday, extended their support and stood by him. He added that he is in the US for the past month due to personal commitments. "During this time, two false allegations on the grounds of sexual harassment were made against me. Quite naturally, it has shattered me, my family and everyone who has held me close," he said.

Jayasurya said he has decided to move legally and that his legal team will look after the rest of the proceedings. Pointing out that false allegations are easy to make for anyone who lacks a conscience, the actor said, "I only hope one realises that facing a false accusation of harassment is just as painful as the harassment itself. A lie always travels faster than the truth but I believe truth will prevail."

The first case of sexual misconduct was registered against him on August 28 by Thiruvananthapuram cantonment police. He was booked under IPC section 354 (intent to outrage modesty).

The second case of sexual assault was registered on August 29 by Karamana police in the state capital after an actress complained that he molested her at a movie set near Thodupuzha in 2012-13. He was slapped with charges under IPC 354, 354A (A1) (I) and 354D.

Jayasurya said he will be back as soon as he completes his work in the US, adding that the legal proceedings to prove his innocence will continue and that he has complete faith in the judicial system.

In a sarcastic tone, he wrote, "Thank you to those who contributed to making this birthday the most painful one. Let those who have not sinned throw stones; but only at those who have sinned."

The allegations surfaced after the release of Hema Committee Report, which has revealed alleged abuse of women in the Malayalam film industry.
