The Film Federation of India (FFI) has announced that Hindi movie Laapataa Ladies will be India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Film Category for the Academy Award 2025.
The Kiran Rao directorial was selected from 29 films that were submitted to the FFI, which included Malayalam films Aattam and Ullozhukku, Tamil flicks Vaazhai and Thangalaan, and Hindi film Srikanth.

It was a setback for this year's Cannes Grand Prix winner All We Imagine as Light, which was considered for both French and Indian selection, but could not make it in either.
The film was a hit with the audience and critics alike, following its release on Netflix in March this year. It earned over Rs 25 crore worldwide.
A song in the film, Sajni Re which was composed by Ram Sampath and sung by Arijit Singh, went on to become a chartbuster.
Produced by Rao, Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande, the film is about two newlywed brides who accidentally get switched.

The film stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ratna and Sparsh Shrivastava, along with Chayya Kadam and Ravi Kishan.
The final nominations for the 97th Academy Awards will be announced on January 17, 2025.
