‘Thala’ Ajith back on track! Announces racing team, to contest in European championship

Ajith Kumar Racing reportedly planning to contest in the European GT4 championship next year. 'Vidamuyarchi', 'Good, Bad, Ugly' are the actor's upcoming films

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar is all set to get back into motor racing and the actor has announced the launch of his new racing team ‘Ajith Kumar Racing’. 

The actor’s publicity manager Suresh Chandra, in a recent tweet said, “We are proud to announce the beginning of a new exciting adventure: Ajith Kumar Racing. Fabian Duffieux will be the official racing driver. And the amazing news? Aside of being a team owner, Ajith Kumar is back in the racing seat!” 

The team will be contesting in various international events and they are reportedly planning to contest in the  European GT4 championship next year. The team will provide fully supported racing programmes for talented young drivers, Chandra said.

A known automobile enthusiast, Ajith has participated in 2004 Formula Asia BMW F3 Championship and 2010 Formula 2 Championship. The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) recently said the actor is keen on making a comeback to motor racing and negotiations are on with teams based in the UK, Europe and Middle East.

“Ajith started his racing career in motorcycles taking part in the National Motorcycle Racing Championship. Post intensive training programmes in the pro-karts and following his successful participation in the National Single-Seater Racing Championship, he then progressed to the international arena by participating in the Asian Formula BMW Championship, and the British Formula 3 Championship - securing podium finishes at the Donington Park and Knockhill circuits and then moved on to participate in the FIA Formula 2 Championship,” it said.

Last year, Ajith Kumar announced the launch of his motorcycle touring venture ‘Venus Motorcycle Tours’ which operates planned road trips in Rajasthan, UAE, Oman, Thailand and New Zealand. Earlier, his ‘Thunivu’ co-star and Malayalam actor Manju Warrier had said Ajith inspired her to own a bike. 

The professional racing training did come in handy for the actor while performing vehicle stunts for films. The actor was recently appreciated for his presence of mind when the car he was driving while performing a stunt for his upcoming film ‘Vidamuyarchi’.
