Actor Rajinikanth has been discharged from Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Thursday night, following a heart surgery.

The superstar was admitted earlier this week after complaining of severe stomach pain, which was diagnosed as a swollen aorta.

The medical bulletin released by Dr R.K. Venkataawsalam, medical director of Apollo Hospitals, said that Rajinikanth had a swelling in a major blood vessel connecting to the heart.

Rajinikanth underwent a non-invasive transcatheter procedure, which required a stent to be placed from the lower abdomen.

The procedure, done by Dr Sai Satish, is reported to have gone smoothly. "Mr Rajinikanth is stable and recovering well,” the hospital said.

The actor has had heart-related issues in the past too.

In December 2020, while shooting for Annaatthe in Hyderabad, Rajinikanth spent three days at the Apollo Hospital, following fluctuation in his blood pressure.

And, in late 2021, he underwent a procedure known as carotid artery revascularisation, following an episode of giddiness, just a week before the release of Annaatthe.

Meanwhile, the 73-year-old actor is gearing up for the release of his next film, Vettaiyan, directed by T. J. Gnanavel. The film, which has a stellar cast—Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Dushara Vijayan—is slated for release next week.

The Jailer star is also set to complete shooting for his movie Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which is set for a 2025 release.
